10 days ago   |   By GameSpot

Bungie will assume publishing rights of the Destiny series from Activision, the developer announced today. This will mark the end of a 10-year contract established in 2010, which saw Activision help Bungie to launch its first post-Halo project after it gained its independence from former owner Microsoft. The process of transitioning Destiny's publishing from Activision to Bungie has already begun, according to a post on Bungie's website. There's no word on any immediate impact on Destiny 2 , but it's likely development on the game's post-launch content will continue as previously...

Activision Blizzard Stock Nosedives After Bungie/Destiny Split

10 days ago   |   By GameSpot

Activision and Bungie made a big announcement today when the companies confirmed they were splitting up , with Bungie getting the Destiny franchise going forward. While Destiny 2: Forsaken might have failed to reach Activision's commercial sales expectations , it still means that the publisher is losing a revenue stream. So it's no surprise, then, that Activision Blizzard's stock price dropped dramatically after the news was made public. Investors were seemingly spooked at the idea of Activision Blizzard losing a revenue-contributor. The company's share price fell by almost 7 percent in...

Destiny 2 Will Stay On Battle.Net After Bungie's Split From Activision

10 days ago   |   By GameSpot

Blizzard has confirmed that Destiny 2 will continue to receive "full support" on Battle.net going forward. Destiny 2 and its extra content remains available to buy on Battle.net, and it appears it will not be removed from the store, at least not yet. Bungie split with Activision to self-publish Destiny series

10 days ago   |   By Rock, Paper, Shotgun

After a little over eight years, Bungie is to split from publisher Activision and take the Destiny series of online shooters with them. In a developer blog post , Bungie announce that this includes transferring full publishing rights back to the developer. Whether this means anything for players purchasing and launching the game via Battle.net is yet unknown, but they state that “Bungie and Activision are both committed to making sure the handoff is as seamless as possible”. For players right now this means very little, but I'm curious to see if this leads to any change in Destiny 2's...

Bungie to Assume Full Publishing Rights for the Destiny Franchise

10 days ago   |   By N4G

When we first launched our partnership with Activision in 2010, the gaming industry was in a pretty different place. As an independent studio setting out to build a brand new experience, we wanted a partner willing to take a big leap of faith with us. We had a vision for Destiny that we believed in, but to launch a game of that magnitude, we needed the support of an established publishing partner.

That was rather unexpected.
Activision and Bungie partnered on Destiny in 2010, and with Destiny 2 , that partnership continued. However, the two are parting ways now. A few months ago, Activision said that Destiny 2 was a sales disappointment and the company was reevaluating how to proceed from there.
