Google appears to be getting ready to release a much-anticipated update for Pixel 6 phones. Android expert Mishaal Rahman notes that Google has posted OTA and factory images for the January 2022 patch to its developer site. That means anyone can side-load the update to their Pixel phone now, but it also means the official over-the-air update will be coming to your device soon - and it might be best to wait until then, given the trouble caused by December's update.

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will finally get Google's December/January Android security patch next week if Canadian carriers are correct.
According to Fido's and Telus' OS update schedules, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will receive the anticipated security update on January 17th.
Google initially rolled out the update back on December 13th. The December update was delayed more than a week, but it came with 80 fixes and other improvements. However, it also included a nasty bug that cause the phone to drop calls. Because of this issue, Google paused the rollout of the update.

Google Finally Releases That Big Bug Fixing Update for The Pixel 6

After nearly six weeks of waiting, the Pixel 6 update is finally starting to roll out, and Google has posted the factory images and OTAs so you can sideload the update yourself.
This update rolls the December update in with the January security patch. So it's liable to be a pretty big update when you do get it on your device. Downloading the OTA image from Google's website comes in at about 1.9GB. That's typically the size of a full, new version of Android. But given the many bug fixes in this update, this should not come as a surprise.

There's been a lot of talk lately about how bug-ridden the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have been since they launched in October. Google was set to push out an update in December, with the December 2021 security patch that would fix about 100 bugs on the devices. But that update continued to get pushed back. Now, it looks like the Pixel 6 update is set to start rolling out on January 17.
