AT&T Finalizes Acquisition of Time Warner

5 days ago   |   By Phone Scoop

AT&T today said it has completed its purchase of Time Warner, a deal originally valued at $85.4 billion when it was announced in October 2016. Earlier this week, a U.S. judge sided with AT&T after the Justice Department sued the company to block the deal. After losing the case, the Justice Department made no further recommendations against the deal and AT&T wrapped up the legal paperwork quickly. Time Warner - and now AT&T - owns Warner Bros., HBO, and Turner, which in turn owns CNN and other media properties. "Combine with AT&T's strengths in direct-to-consumer distribution, and we offer...

5 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

AT&T's Time Warner acquisition is official, costing the U.S.' second-largest wireless carrier in the amount of $85 Billion to snatch up the mega media corporation which includes brands like Turner, Warner Bros., and HBO, all three of which are massive entertainment networks with some pretty big content under their belts. With these sorts of brands (which CEO Randall Stephenson refers to as first-rate) under AT&T's already extensive umbrella, AT&T is looking to bring some competition and change to the media industry. Stephenson notes that as a result of the Time Warner acquisition and by...

AT&T finishes acquiring Time Warner, becoming massive media conglomerate

5 days ago   |   By The Verge

AT&T has completed its acquisition of Time Warner, just two days after a federal judge ruled the merger could clear despite the objections of the Justice Department and just hours after the Justice Department said it would allow the deal to close.
The $85 billion deal puts the many massive media properties owned by Time Warner - including HBO, Warner Bros., and CNN - under the ownership of one of America's largest internet, TV, and phone service providers. It creates a whole mess of potential conflicts of interest when it comes to content favoritism, with opponents of the deal drawing...

Justice Department Won't Appeal AT&T/Time Warner Ruling

5 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

The Department of Justice has announced that it will not seek an appeal on the ruling in the AT&T and Time Warner case that was made earlier this week. That may come as a surprise to many, but that means that AT&T is able to go through with the merger, and even expects to close the deal by Friday. Judge Richard Leon on Tuesday, announced that Time Warner could merge with AT&T for $85.4 billion. This merger was actually announced nearly 20 months ago, making this a very long and drawn out process, but the government wanted to block this vertical merger - and it was something that Trump...

US Antitrust Chief Is Unphased After Losing The AT&T/Time Warner Case

5 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

This week, Judge Richard Leon made his decision in the AT&T/Time Warner merger, and sided with AT&T to allow the two companies to merge, and surprisingly, without any conditions attached. That was a big loss for the head of the antitrust division in the Justice Department, Makan Delrahim, and arguably Delrahim's biggest loss of his career. Delrahim stated after the ruling came out that he has taken an oath to uphold competition, also mentioning that he and his team will be reviewing the judge's opinion here and look towards the next steps.
Despite losing the case, Delrahim is actually...

The transaction will close on June 20th and makes AT&T the new owner of CNN, HBO, TNT and TBS. It also gives the company ownership of the iconic Time Warner movie studio and a large inventory of film titles including the Batman and Harry Potter series.

The Justice Department will let the AT&T-Time Warner merger close

The Justice Department will let the AT&T-Time Warner merger close

5 days ago   |   By The Verge

The Justice Department announced today that it will not seek a legal stay of the AT&T-Time Warner merger ruling, clearing the way for the completion of the giant deal.
Earlier this week, when a judge ruled that he would allow the deal to go through despite the Justice Department's lawsuit, it was a sharp rebuke to antitrust enforcers. In the decision, which was overwhelmingly in favor of the merger, the judge seemed to suggest an appeal would be futile, and that if the department filed for a temporary legal stay of the ruling, it could unfairly scuttle the deal, which has a deadline to...
